Dusk at Ba Sing Se was a familiar sight for Chen, the farmer. Warm air and cloudy skies characterized nights such as this one. Families were probably settling in for the evening, and most animals were returning to their dens after a hard day of surviving.
Chen, the farmer, sat on his scraggy wooden porch and looked out over his vegetable garden. The cabbages were growing nice; they would produce a fine harvest. But cabbages alone wouldn't produce a great enough yield tomorrow at the bizarre to sustain Chen for the season. With a heavy heart he looked toward the setting sun and then to his lone chicken coop that sat in the distance. The hens were in there squawking up a storm as was custom before they roosted for the night.
"I sure hope those two hires show up soon," Chen said aloud before releasing a forlorn sign. "Won't be long now." [/size]

"Where Fears & Lies Melt Away" "I'm late, I'm late, I'm late!" The raven haired beauty practically stumbling over her own two feet, quickened her pace in order to arrive at Chen's residence before dusk fell into night. Her tardiness was due to her own curiousity whom steered her into the subtle flea markets of the earth bending colony. Astounded by the cultures and items that the Earth benders typically manufactured, the young airbender lost track of time and would it explain why she now in a frenzy, rushed to make it to Chen's farm.
The sound of a gathering of chickens, clucking in unison reassured the girl that she was in ear shot of the proximity. With a couple of more uncoordinated steps, Mingyu reached the unstable gate of the farm. Placing her hand over the edge of the wooden fence, the girl hunched over, trying to catch her breath by wielding small amounts of wind and guiding it towards her notrils. Inhaling and exhaling several times to rejuvanate her stamina, Mingyu took a deep breath before prompting herself up to a sturdy stand. As the sun hidden in the horizons its glare illuminated against an elderly man who sat on a worn out rocking chair, patiently waiting for her arrival.
"I sincerely apologize for my lateness. It was ill-hearted of me." The girl bowed as if waiting for the man to grant her forgiveness.

Lee walked casually through the earth kingdom. He didn't know what strange beings were in this land, but he felt out of place. He looked down and saw his darkened fire nation garments. He knew he would stick out like a sore thumb. Hopefully, it would be dark enough that his clothes so he wouldn't have to deal with any prejudice people that also signed up for this mission.
As dusk started to fall over the land, Lee started to realize that he was tardy for his assignment. He was having limited visibility due to the darkness. He looked around him at the passing shadows and started to get nervous. He dug around in his robes and fetched one of his elemental sword hilts. After a second of focusing, a blade made of fire was forged through Lee's firebending. The sword illuminated the area iaround of the Lone Wanderer and was able to continue.
He held his flaming sword up to the darkness as he walked. He Looked around for some sort of life, but was having trouble finding where he was suppose to perform this deed. He closed his eyes and used his other senses. He heard the distant sound of clucking from a direction not far from him. Lee picked up the pace and eventually ended up in his destination. He exinguished his flaming orange sword and tucked the hilt away back into his robes.
"Hey. Sorry I'm late. I'm here for the mission. The name's Lee." The Lone Wanderer said in a hurry. He looked around at the other person partaking in this mission. She looked more of a beauty than a fighter, but he had learned in the past to not to judge people based on their looks. "Hey girlie! You ready for this?" He asked her.

Chen, the farmer, sighed loudly before looking to his gate and seeing the two young people coming forth. They had already showed up late for their chore; could he trust these two with his future? Well, they were here now. "Better go greet 'em," the old man resolved as he stood up from his chair and exited his porch.
Coming down the pathway toward the two, he made no attempt to smile. "I began to think you two wouldn't show," Chen admitted, stopping feet in front of his gate. There was no intention to invite either the young man or young woman past the points where they now stood. "Now have you come to work or have you come to waste my time?" Assuming they answered in the affirmative to the former, Chen would continue. He pointed a long, bony finger in the darkness, letting it sit there for a few seconds before returning his arm to the at rest position. "There is the chicken coop. Right there. I suggest you two don't dilly dally in getting over there, because it won't be long now before they start their evening hunt." Chen paused to swallow some of his own spit. "Twelve hens are roosting in that coop. I want twelve hens in there when I wake up in the morning."
Chen, the farmer, turned around and began to walk back toward his porch. He wouldn't be stopping there, though. His bedtime was coming up and it was now the part of the evening where he prepared to lie down. "You'll receive your pay in the morning. For each chicken you let the armadillo wolves get, that's ten gold coins you won't be seeing." Within a few more steps he was at the door. Within a few more he was inside. The door locked.

"Where Fears & Lies Melt Away"
"Hey girlie, are you ready for this?" An unfamiliar voice surfaced from behind her; masculininity blundering out of every word, confirmed any suspicion of gender as it was clear by his tonation that he was male. She slowly turned her body around to find herself fixed upon a pool of chocolates, extracting pure confidence from its coffee, chestnut hues. Innocence in her smile, Mingyu greeted the stranger with a bow. "Yes, I do believe that I am ready."
In the midst of their conversation, Mingyu failed to notice that Chen, who just minutes ago rested serenely on his preciptious chair had now ended up just a few inches away from the two. As he spoke, his words hinted at his dissapproval towards their tardiness and although Mingyu had already planned out an apology, it appeared the it would go untouched as the elder made it transparent that it won't be tolerated under his supervision. Getting straight to the point, Chen pointed his bony index finger towards the coop where a hurd of chickens awaited its proper protection. A set of small directions completing a less than complicated man, told them all the two needed to know about what his expectations consisted of. Wrapping up his lecture, Chen the farmer turned around and began to make his way towards his porch. Guilt stricken, Mingyu made no attempt to hide her sentiments; an expression of distressed was plastered across her face. Signing up for this mission was not for the reward itself but for her own satisfaction of using her blessings for the sake of another but since she arrived, she had not endured much except a slap to the face for her self-indulgence.
A slouch followed by a bow of the head was all that was left for the girl to give. She faced the direction in which the elder had pointed at. "We should get going, I don't want to disappoint him more than I already have." She admitted, starting her way towards the defendless chickens that desperately needed their guidance.

The elder was upset, just how Lee had pictured he would be. There was nothing he could do as the old man pounded word after word into Lee's thoughts. He had to sit there and listen for any vital information that would be spewed out of the geezer's mouth. All Lee could do was smile and nod.
After, the old man went to bed for the night, leaving Lee and the mysterious girl alone. This girl had to be a bender seeing how there was no way that she could scare the wolves away with a face like that. Lee followed her to the coop in order to start the mission of defending the chickens from harm.
The girl was very strict when it came to her duties. She was worried about the old man getting disappointed in her even more than he already was. Lee was brought up on respecting elders, but not enough to change his persona in order to please them.
Lee reached around his back and grasped the hilts of his swords. With one quick motion, Lee released Yin and Yang from the hilt, separated them, and sliced the air all in one quick motion. He shifted his hands so the dual dao swords were held backhanded and dug them into the dirt. He knelt down to the ground and waited for the intruders to come and protest his presence.
He looked at the girl again, this time longer than the last. He came to the conclusion that he would make her acquaintance. "I'm Lee by the way. The best damn swordsman you'll ever meet. Whats your name?" Lee asked the girl. He flashed a quick smile at the girl in hopes she was friendly.

The chickens inside were squawking momentarily, soon settling down for the night while just outside of the coop their protectors became acquainted. In the distance, shadows were already beginning to shift. The wolves were moving into their formation, still too far away for any attacks to be made. The airbender and firebender were given a few more moments to speak among themselves.

"Where Fears & Lies Melt Away" Mingyu placed her bottom on the dirt ground that resided below her. Her eyes analyzed the area carefully, making certain that there wasn't any unwanted visitors lurking behind the shadows. The other new - hire was known as Lee and based off of first impressions he seemed harmless, friendly even. Not one to neglect conversation, the young airbender spoke. "My name is Mingyu. Nice to meet you Lee. Those are some cool looking swords you got there." She used her index finger to point towards the duel swords that rested, deep into the ground. Her eyes drew away from the swords and then focused on Lee himself. "Are you a bender?" Straight to the point, Mingyu made no effort to mask her inquiries.
