ZHANG, MINGYU
"Live without pretending. Love without depending. Listen without defending. Speak without offending."
Name: Mingyu Zhang
Age: Fifteen
Gender: Female
Alignment: Lawful Good
Nationality: Air Nomads
Bender: Yes
Height: 5'2 Ft.
Weight: 110 lbs.
Birthday: August 11th
Items:
✰ Harmonica: Purchased by her mother from a merchant, the harmonica was given to Mingyu as a gift. Upon her first encounter with the melodic instrument, Mingyu gained an increased interest on the soothing chords that ignited from the mechanism. The girl self taught herself to play the harmonica and gained a strong belief that it somehow eases a troubled mind, temporarily relinquishing all self doubt and negativety that transpires around her.
✰ Journal: One of her most precious items aside from the two listed above. The journal plays an essential part in the life of Mingyu. In the small paperback book, Mingyu uses it as a means to cope with her feelings when she cannot express them in fear that if she does she may burden another with her own insecurities. The journal also records all of Mingyu's experiences both past and present with hints of an idealistic future that holds a prominent role in the young girls life.

Personality:
Tender-Hearted: In the early years of tragedy that befell upon the young child; losing her mother was one of the most devastating. Despite this occurrence, she still manages to maintain her optismistic nature; the central part of her persona. Holding a strong sense of innocence, Mingyu has raised herself in the belief that although the world may seem corrupted by the war's chaotic burdens, there is still room left for it to regain its purity; her being a primative example. She is not one to judge. instead Mingyu is very accepting of new companions and is almost always eager to lend a hand of generousity towards anyone who is willing to oblige to her selflessness. At times, Mingyu's kindness can be seen as a disadvantage and this is because she is much more entangled in other affairs that she neglects her own sentiments. Due to this Mingyu is often defined as a doormat because of her good natured spirit disable's her from ignoring another's plight. Therefore, the girl is constantly misused for another's own selfish testaments.
Free Spirit: Freedom is more of an essential part of life rather than a perception which is logical considering her elemental manipulation is air. It has become evident that the girl lacks proper discipline and although she does not neccesarily need it, her untamed vitality can at times place her in the most irrational of situations. Adventurous would be an understatement for the girl as her venturous demeanor stimulates the young Airbender to view the beautiful world for its entiretly rather than simply hearing it. Due to this Mingyu can not be settled in one place for too long, wanting to explore all of the Earth's province, one step at a time.
Humble: Mingyu is proud but that does not mean she's arrogant. She is confident in herself and her own abilities but is knownledgeble that there is always room for development, seizing the oppurtunity to comply with others if it is neccessary. If complimented, Mingyu does not let such kindness go unnoticed and expresses her gratitude for such attentiveness to her physicality but she does not exploit the matter. At times she does not see herself the way others do but would never disregard another's praise as she is to polite to do so.
Sensative: One of her more negative traits. Although it is concealed fairly well, Mingyu can become extremely sensative, occurring whenever something askew surfaces. In these cases, the Airbender gathers all blame and doubt and somehow manages to bestow it upon herself even when there is no way that it could have been her fault. Depending on the level of severity, Mingyu becomes almost catonic and emotionally breaks down as the encrumbrance can be too much even for her to carry. But she tries her best to disguise her vulnerability as she does not want to disturb those around her nor worry them of her own proneness.
Loyal: With the same loyalty that a dog devotes to his owner, the young Airbender attained the exacted characteristic when it coincides with either her own loved ones or defendless citizens that are in need of assisstant. A woman of her word, Mingyu does not ever break a promise as it is the pinnacle of the upmost trust and bonds are what the girl builds most of her morals on. This awakens the protective warrior that lurks hides inside Mingyu as she would risk her own life in an attempt to save another without question or hesistancy.
Appearance:
Almond shaped with a cerulean tint consolidate a fascinating deliverence of purity; originating from the midpoint of the young bender's iris. Round cheeks advertising a brilliant rosary red, compliments her pallid pigmentation and highlights the stunningly gorgeous smile that the girl typically wears. Mingyu's appearence coincides with that of a princess generating from a fairytale than that of girl who was born into a relatively poor family. Mingyu has developed quite the appearence, attaining the most exceptional features from her mother, who was almost flawless in her physicality. With a face that almost seems to be sculpted at the hands of an angelic entity, Mingyu has caught the eye of fellow patrons who admire her beauty and although she is ravishing in her looks, Mingyu does not perceive herself in the way that others do. Cascading around her face resides a incrediabely long but still very well maintained, black curtain of silk. At times it is worn free, showing off the longitivity in its manifestation but on the regular the girl seperates her hair in the middle, pinning it up into a bun on each side of her head while the rest of the raven locks hang loosely at her sides.
While not entirely established in her figure in which much of that is due to the age barrier, Mingyu's frame is only defined as slim and toned in other aspects because of a repetative cycle of an endurance that is the sole basis of her training. Only standing at a rough five foot two and weighing in about a hundred and ten pounds it is obvious that the girl is not bulky, however Mingyu is strong for a girl of her caliber. Although genetics favored the young Airbender, blessing her with an appearence based off of royalty it is transparent that Mingyu is not of noble birth. Her hands are more calloused than the average field worker because of its constant usage during her training and unfortunately her feet shared the same inevitable fate.
Much like herself, Mingyu's clothing is more loose fitting than what it is fashionable. Dressed in a chinese garb of sorts, the shirt draws end towards her pelvic area where it conceals the most obvious of feminine parts. Her sleeves much like the rest of the top is loose fitting in length but encloses tightly around her wrist as the rest of it hangs. A small golden bell is stitched into the very end of the sleeve on each side. On her bottom half, since the garb is short Mingyu wears beige shorts that exceed a great amount of comfortability when she is training. Red shoes that hold a good amount of bounce reside on her feet.
History:
"Even on the darkest of days, Mama always found something to smile about. No mishappening was ever too bad for her because she looked past all of that. She saw the good in everyone and when she died I took it upon myself to keep that .... in honor of her memory."
The long awaited child of the fairly small Zhang family had arrived on the beautifully lit Sunday morning of August 11th. Her birth, although holding no significant meaning to the temple itself, held great value to the now mother, Nu'Ying. Her husband, Donghai was there for the birth only momentarily, holding his little girl for a heart-wrenching minute before he was called away to fight in a war that would ultimately be the cause of his disappearence.
With her husband now gone and only left with a string of hope of his return, Nu'Ying took all responsibilities of a parent, both female and male and used them to mold her daughter to be an image of her own self but not once ignoring the fact that Donghai was her father.
The name Mingyu was the name chosen by the infants grandmother who aided Nu'Ying in the process of raising the little girl since her son could not be there to do it himself. Poverty playing a major hindrance while raising Mingyu, Nu'Ying worked an array of odd jobs to keep the child from going hungry. While her mother helped financially, her Grandmother helped with the essentials of life, teaching Mingyu the basics of a woman's role in the source of life.
Although her mother was often busy, Mingyu was influenced by the radiates of positivety that blanketed off Nu'Ying. She was always cheerful despite all the misfortune's that bestowed upon her and instead of dwelling over the matter, she looked for something that could possibly change it for the better. Optimistic in every scenario, this was soon adapted to Mingyu who idolized her mother in every way imagineable. Nu'Ying always wore a smile and always lended a hand to whomever need guidance.
At the age ten, Mingyu's mother was killed off by a bandit who tried to rob a store that Nu'Ying worked in. A small robbery turned violent as the mugger who was said to be a fire nation tresspasser took the life of Nu'Ying, burning her body into a crisp. Devastated by the news, Mingyu's grandmother swore in secrectecy to train her granddaughter in whatever way she could so that she could defend herself and avoid the same fate her mother tragically encountered. The death of Nu'Ying in the hands of a fire bender led to a public outcry which fueled the temperment of many due to the death of there own let alone as kind hearted as Nu'Ying.
Mingyu was the most heartbroken to the matter but inwardly knew her mother would oppose a rivarly between the two nations as she believed one must take stand and end what another starts. Although knowing this, Mingyu decided that training with her grandmother would be most useful it she was ever placed in a dire situation. Accepting the offer, Mingyu and her grandmother moved to the Eastern Temple where most female Airbenders trained rigorously. It was around this time that Mingyu gained her own abilities to manipulate the air and used this along with her martial arts as a tactic to dominate in battle. Although Mingyu is quite efficient in her airbending abilities she has yet to perfect and due to her age there is much to learn before she can even be catergorized as that.
At the tender age of a now fifteen, Mingyu aids her grandmother and still trains with her whenever there is time to. Her beliefs and morals have however, remained in tact. She does not fight unless it is the last thing she must do and uses her airbending tactics to play around with the younger kids of her village. A free spirit such as herself can never be bound to one place for too long and because of this reason is why she decides to venture off into the world and view it for its worth. She grew restless but felt horrible about the idea as she felt she would betray her grandmother who was kind enough to raise her after her mother passed. Toying with that idea, Mingyu has brung this up to her grandmother and expressed how she wished to also reunite with her father if he was even still alive. She also spoke of her guilt and how she thought she was being unfaithful to her grandmother's kindness. Understanding her feelings, the elder told Mingyu that it was ok and if this is what she wanted she would be supportive.
With a heartfelt goodbye, Mingyu bidded her goodbyes to the temple and promised that she would return with gifts and alive. Thus, her journey begins as she uses the wind to carry herself out of the Eastern Temple and into the world that was itching for her to travel to.
